What to Look for in a Pellet Grill
Construction quality separates a pellet grill that lasts from one that doesn't. Thin-gauge steel warps under high heat over time; grills built from heavier steel hold temperature better and hold up longer. It's one of the most meaningful differences between what you'll find at a big box store and what we carry here. Temperature range is worth checking if you want versatility — most pellet grills smoke well at low temps, but not all can reach the higher heat needed for searing. Look for a range that covers at least 180°F on the low end and 500°F or higher if you want to do more than smoke. Controller and connectivity have improved significantly in recent generations — Wi-Fi-enabled controllers let you monitor and adjust temps remotely, which matters on long cooks. Hopper capacity affects how often you're refilling during a cook; larger hoppers mean fewer interruptions on overnight smokes. Finally, think about configuration: freestanding cart models offer flexibility, while built-in models integrate cleanly into an outdoor kitchen. If you're building an outdoor kitchen, it's worth planning your grill head selection alongside your island layout from the start.
