Solo Stove Fire Pit Shield — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Solo Stove Fire Pit Shield?
The Solo Stove Shield (sometimes called the “shield spark screen” or “Shield Fire Pit Spark Screen”) is a two-piece stainless steel spark arrestor designed to sit atop compatible Solo Stove fire pits (like Bonfire, Ranger, Yukon, etc.). It helps prevent sparks and embers from escaping while letting heat and airflow pass through.
What are its materials, dimensions & design features?
• Material: 304 stainless steel, corrosion resistant, built for outdoor use.
• Design: Two-piece construction so the upper section can be removed independently for stoking or adding wood, without removing the entire Shield.
• Self-centering rim: helps the Shield dock neatly on top of the fire pit’s flame ring.
• Grooved rim markings: physical/visual cues to help align orientation.
• Roasting stick supports: slots or supports to rest skewers or sticks for s’mores, etc.
• Example dimensions (for the Bonfire version): ~ 19″ diameter × 3.75″ height, weight ~5 lb.
How do I install and use the Shield?
1. Ensure your fire pit is placed safely and that the flame ring is in its correct, upright orientation.
2. Use the included removal tongs or tools to lift and place the Shield atop the flame ring.
3. When you need to add wood or adjust, you can remove just the top portion of the Shield (due to its two-piece design) and replace it after adjustments.
4. Always use the provided tools when handling the Shield while hot to protect yourself.
5. After use, let the fire pit cool completely before touching the Shield or removing it.
What are the advantages and limitations?
Advantages:
• Helps block or reduce stray sparks and embers from launching outside the fire pit, improving safety.
• Two-piece design gives convenient access for adding fuel without removing the whole unit.
• Self-centering and grooved rim simplify correct placement.
• Compatible with Solo Stove’s nestable design: the Shield fits inside the fire pit’s chamber for compact transport or storage.
Limitations / cautions:
• The Shield is not a complete barrier — very fine sparks or ash may still escape, especially under windy conditions.
• The Shield becomes extremely hot during use — always use the removal tools and allow cooling time.
• It must be compatible with your fire pit’s flame ring design; older Solo Stove units may need a replacement ring for full fit.
• Over time, thermal stress and exposure may cause discoloration, slight warping, or fatigue in the metal.
• The Shield can’t be used together with certain accessories (e.g. heat deflector) if they conflict geometrically.
