Auto tilt puts everything in the crank. Turn the handle clockwise to open the canopy, then just keep turning — past fully open, the canopy begins to tilt, up to 45 degrees. There's no button to hold, nothing to reach up for, and no mechanism on the pole that can stick or wear out. For anyone who'd rather not reach overhead, or who adjusts the shade several times across an afternoon, it's the easiest of the three tilt styles to live with.

The bronze powder-coated aluminum frame is the warmer of the two finishes. It sits naturally against brick, flagstone, cedar decking, teak, and traditional wrought-iron furniture — the frame reads as part of the setting rather than a piece of hardware in it. Nine feet of canopy gives you 57 square feet of shade, enough for a 48-inch round dining table for four, a pair of lounge chairs, or two chaise lounges.

A single wind vent at the crown lets air pass up and out through the top of the canopy instead of pushing flat against it. A 100% Kevlar mesh lift cord runs the lift and tilt, which is what keeps the mechanism working smoothly in year five rather than fraying out on you in year three.

How the Auto Tilt Works

Crank the handle clockwise until the umbrella is fully open. Keep cranking clockwise and the canopy tilts, up to a 45-degree angle — stop wherever you want it. To bring it back, turn the crank counter-clockwise until the canopy returns upright, then keep turning counter-clockwise to close it.

That's the whole operation: one handle, one direction to open and tilt, the reverse to level and close. Once it's closed, secure the canopy with the fabric ties to keep a gust from catching a loose panel overnight.

Auto, Push Button, or Collar Tilt?

Treasure Garden builds this same 9-foot canopy with three tilt mechanisms. The difference is worth understanding before you choose, because it's the part of the umbrella you interact with every single time you use it.

Auto tilt — this page. Everything happens at the crank, at waist height. Full 45 degrees of tilt, nothing to press, and it holds its angle firmly because the tilt is driven by the same threaded mechanism that lifts the canopy. The trade is that tilting takes a few extra turns rather than one press.

Collar tilt — twist a collar and the canopy angles in any direction around the pole, up to 30 degrees. Less maximum angle, but it's the only one that gives you full directional control, which matters when seating wraps all the way around the table. Canopy Colors That Work With a Bronze Frame

Bronze has a warm undertone, and it's more opinionated than black about what sits next to it. A few pairings that consistently work:

• Warm neutrals. Natural, sesame, sand, and antique beige sit closest to the frame's own tone. The quietest, most cohesive option, and the one that ages best if you change furniture later.
• Reds, rusts, and terracotta. Henna, jockey red, and warm stripe patterns are where bronze genuinely outperforms a black frame — the frame's undertone supports them instead of fighting them.
• Greens. Forest and ginkgo read garden-traditional against bronze, especially with stone or brick nearby.
• Where to be careful. Bright cool tones — cobalt, aqua, crisp white — can look slightly off against bronze's warmth. If one of those is the canopy you want, the black frame is the better pairing.

Canopy fabric comes in Grade A and Grade C. Grade A is 100% solution-dyed acrylic — Sunbrella, Outdura, Bella-Dura, Bliss, and Docril — with a five-year warranty against fading. Grade C is O'Bravia, 100% solution-dyed polyester, with a four-year fade warranty. Solution-dyed means color runs through the fiber rather than sitting on the surface, which is why these hold their color through Kansas summers when a big-box canopy goes chalky in two. Wind and Stability

The single wind vent at the crown changes how this umbrella behaves on a gusty afternoon. Instead of a gust pushing flat against nine feet of fabric and lifting it, air passes up through the vent and out the top. Less snap, less rocking, less reaching over to steady the pole mid-conversation — and less load traveling into the ribs over the life of the umbrella.

The vent helps. It doesn't replace base weight. Fifty pounds is the floor for a 9-foot canopy dropped through a table, where the tabletop shares the load. Freestanding, you want more: a 75- or 100-pound base, or 50 pounds plus the 30-pound add-on weight. An underweighted base is the failure point in nearly every umbrella that goes over.

Then two habits. Tilt or close the canopy when the wind really picks up rather than leaving it open and hoping — vented or not, a storm is a storm. And tie the canopy closed anytime you're not under it, especially overnight and through the off-season.
