What is the YS640 Half-Depth 9-Inch Shelf?
This is a second-level cooking shelf for Yoder Smokers YS640-series pellet grills. At 9 inches deep, it replaces the full-depth upper shelf to give you extra room for smaller cuts while keeping clear access to the back of the main grate.
Will it fit my grill?
Yes—it's designed specifically for all YS640 models, including YS640 and YS640s (standard cart, Competition Cart, and Built-In configurations). It is not intended for YS480-series grills.
Why choose a half-depth shelf over the full-size shelf?
The reduced depth preserves the convenience of a second shelf while making it easier to reach food on the lower grate. It’s ideal for wings, veggies, sides, and holding temps without blocking your reach.
What are the dimensions and capacity?
The shelf is approximately 9 inches deep and spans the width of the YS640’s upper rack rails. It comfortably handles smaller items and pans while leaving the rear of the main grate unobstructed for basting, turning, and loading larger cuts.
How do I install and use it?
Simply remove the existing full-depth upper shelf (if installed) and slide the half-depth shelf into the factory upper rack rails. Use it for cooking, warming, or staging sides without sacrificing access to the lower grate.
