The Broil King Keg (formerly Big Steel Keg) comes standard with a heavy-duty steel rolling cart, a second shelf for a whopping 480 square-inches of cooking surface, and a custom grate lifter (for reloading charcoal if necessary). Following are just a few of the benefits that you will enjoy with the Big Steel Keg:

  • Heavy duty cast iron cooking grid
  • Cast iron upper damper
  • Stainless steel lower damper
  • Deluxe Accu-Temp™ thermometer
  • Insulated dual steel wall grill/body
  • Removable resin side shelves with integrated tool hooks
  • Two front handle bottle openers
  • Terra colored high quality epoxy paint finish
  • Rust resistant porcelain coated cooking chamber
  • 10 year limited warranty on body and stand - 2 years on all remaining parts
  • A professional-grade gasket provides a serious seal that won't disintegrate like felt liners

Whether you are preparing a quick weeknight meal, cooking low & slow or searing at high temperatures - the Broil King Keg can do it all. Our most common question on this cooker is how to reload charcoal when you run out halfway through the cooking process. In our experience, the Broil King Keg is highly efficient and uses far less charcoal than a typical charcoal grill. Therefore, reloading charcoal during a standard grilling/smoking session is not likely. In the event that you do need to reload, the Broil King Keg comes with an easy to use tool to lift the hot grate out of the cooker.

Big Steel Keg

We "borrowed" the BSK that Don was using to try it out. During that 2 weeks I put it through its paces, cooking a brisket, pork butt, chickens, hamburgers, steaks and even some cookies. Pros: Very well constructed. Easy to move around on grass and gravel surfaces. Thermal retention and efficiency are incredible, uses very little charcoal. Even with the thermometer reading 650° I could adjust the vents with bare hands, though the top vent does get pretty warm. Holding temps at 300° or more was pretty easy. Cons: There was a fine line for me between being able to cook at less than 250° and putting the fire out, which is the reason for 4 stars. If I can learn that it would get 5 stars easily. We will be getting one of our own, and will use it for chicken at competitions as well as at home. I highly recommend the Big Steel Keg.
